“Sex”, as described by Maslow, is one of the basic physiological needs in the olden Paleolithic days; there were only two primary important needs of the forest-dwelling man to hunt firstly for food and secondly, sex because the primitive man was not aware of the feel-good hormones that are released during sex like dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin. For him, sex was the only way to escape loneliness, feel more secure and have a stronger emotional bond with the opposite-sex partner.
“As industrialization happened, the need theory has evolved to other basic needs like clothing, shelter etc., but the base two needs of the human evolution remain the same, the need for physical intimacy and the satisfaction of hunger “, explained one of the doctors at a leading IVF centre in Punjab.
Having children is an important aspect not just to carrying on an individual’s lineage but also for one’s psychological and social development; we have often heard parents saying I will give my child all that I did not receive which means having children is a chance to revive and relive one’s childhood. Thus having children helps generate a sense of warmth in the family; sons stand for security, strength and sturdiness, while daughters generate glamour, prosperity and beauty within the household.
However, it is sometimes difficult for a couple to conceive naturally and experience the joy of having children due to certain physiological, psychological, physical and social factors.
Sometimes even due to problems with the female, like structural problems in the fallopian tube, or a small vaginal opening, the female may have problems in carrying the fertilized embryo; that is when the process of IVF comes as a boon when after the process the fertilized embryo is transplanted into the womb until the due date of delivery.
But a few factors need to be considered before implanting an embryo. Let us discuss them in detail.
FACTORS TO CONSIDER BEFORE IMPLANTING A FOETUS
- WILLINGNESS: The mother should be willing and in a positive state of mind to bring the child into this world because research says the major reason for miscarriages and abortions is because the mother has subconsciously rejected the child, which means if the mother has rejected the child in her mind, the body will not be in a state of accepting the child, and thus the egg may get destroyed and even if the mother manages to rear the child she will not be able to give her full dedication and love and support to the child. Hence the mother should be in a positive state of mind and agree to carry and deliver the child.
- AGE: The mother should be of childbearing age, that is, between the age of 25-45, and should be of the required dimensions and weight before the procedure is initiated because there are several changes happening in a females body, especially a females reproductive system like the quality of the egg reducing, degeneration of the fallopian tube muscle tissue etc
- HEALTH HISTORY: The health history of the mother and both the parents are an important factor while implanting a child because without knowing the health history of both the parents, it is wrong for the clinic to initiate the process of IVF. The costs may vary across cities. The cost of a test tube baby in Punjab may differ from that in Bihar, and it also varies on the health history of both parents; if the doctor feels the history is fatal, we need to diagnose the same first before initiating the process.
