Learning to write normally can be child’s play, but making it a little more fun by learning to draw a bubble can be a little more of a challenge.
The letter “I” is widely used in our daily lives, so it’s worth learning how to make it funnier. Once you know how to do it, you can create all sorts of cool designs!
In this guide, we’ll walk you through 6 steps on how to create a fun bubble version of this letter. Next, we’ll show you some fun ideas to get inspired with.
How to Draw A Bubble Letter I
Step 1
Depending on the font and style, the letter I can come in a few variations. In the previous sentence you can see that it is a simple straight vertical line.
Sometimes there are two smaller lines at the top and bottom of the letter. This is the design we will be using for this bubble.
We start by drawing the beginning of the little conclusion we just mentioned. To draw this line we will use a simple curved line.
The reference image shows you what this line should look like. When writing, the letter I is very straight, but we will avoid perfectly straight lines here.
This makes it look like I’m being inflated by the air inside. Once this basic curved line is drawn, we can move on to Step 2 of the tutorial.
Step 2
In the second step of this guide we will draw the beginning of the vertical column of the letter I. This will extend from the base you just drew.
Again, we’re going to make it slightly curved, since straight lines keep it from looking bloated. Once we’ve reached the top of the pillar, let’s add another small curved line.
This is the beginning of the smallest line at the beginning of the letter. So keep that in mind. If you want to keep the letter size consistent, you can plan for that.
A good option would be to draw a straight line with a light colored pencil. This will help you choose the length of the I to refer to when adding the closing lines.
Next we draw the top of the letter. So if you are ready, we can proceed with this step.
Step 3
Now it’s time to add the beginning of the letter I. Again, we start where the previous line ended in the previous step.
You might think that the top part of the letter “I” would be identical to the bottom part, but we’re actually going to make it look a little different.
Instead of a smooth, curved line, we have a slight sink in the middle instead. Again, this is to give the impression that it is inflated.
To the right of the I is a large empty space, but we’ll fill that in in the next step when we’ve fully completed the outline. Once the pattern is complete, we can add a few finishing touches, so let’s move on.
Step 4
As mentioned above, in this step you will complete the outline of your bubble letter I. Start by drawing a small curved line to complete the top of the I.
Having done that, let’s draw the right side of the column. This is a mirror image of the image on the left and has a similar slight curvature.
When this part of the pillar is drawn, only a tiny gap is left. This can be filled in with another small curved line.
Once you’ve drawn that last little line, you’re ready for some final touches! Before proceeding, be sure to check that everything is ready for the finishing touches.
If you accepted our suggestion to draw an I in pencil in preparation, feel free to erase it as we don’t need it. You can also trace the outlines with a ballpoint pen or a dark pencil.
When the outline is exactly what you want, we can start adding some interior details in the next section.
Step 5
The outline of this letter may be ready, but we’re not done yet! This part makes the letter look like a bubble.
To do this we will add shapes to show the light reflected from the letter and lines to give volume to the letter. Let’s start with the reflective shape.
As you can see in the reference image, this is drawn as a simple oval shape. We chose to place it on top of the I, but that’s just one of many places it could be placed.
Finally, inside the I, we added some simple, slightly curved lines to indicate that it has some volume. Once those details are in place, feel free to add a few more details!
There are many ways you can make this letter even more unique. For example, you can draw a background or draw small images around it.
If you want to draw attention to the letter, you can decorate it with a pattern or some shapes. In the next step, we’ll also go through some ideas for you to try. First, let’s add some color to this design in the final step.
Step 6
The great thing about coloring your bubble letter is that there is no wrong way to do it. In our example, we chose a green color scheme.
Ideally, if you’re coloring something to look like a balloon, you shouldn’t limit yourself to just one shade.
In our example, we created a gradient of light and dark tones to simulate the appearance of light shining on the bubble. You can get a similar effect no matter what color you choose.
You can choose any color to fill the bubble letter or use different colors!
Once you have drawn some patterns or shapes in the bubble letters, you can work with all sorts of colors.
However, choosing which colors to use is only part of the fun. It can also be a lot of fun to combine different artistic tools and mediums.
For example, you could use acrylic paints for parts of the letter, and then colored pencils and markers for the smaller details.
